Quentin Bell was the son of Clive and Vanessa Bell, and the nephew of Virginia Woolf. Principally drawn to academia and book-writing (his biography of his famous aunt won many prizes), he practiced intermittently as a painter and ceramicist. This bookmark was produced while Bell was a lecturer in Art History at Durham University and presumably sent as a Christmas greeting to family and friends from himself and his wife Olivier.
