Alfred A. Knopf, New York, 1977
Octavo. Original beige boards with brown cloth spine, titles to upper board and spine in gilt, fore edge untrimmed, lower corners very lightly bumped. Otherwise a fine copy in a fine unclipped dust jacket, fresh and bright. A superb copy.
Loosely inserted is an autograph letter signed (ALs) by the author on yellow notepaper to Jay (?) Cowen, presenting the book and expressing thanks “for your kind note, which has followed me – but missed me – during my travels here. I’m happy to send this along to you at last, figuring that it will save us both a lot of time to just do it this way. Thanks again for asking. Sincerely Michael Herr”. ALs by Herr are scarce.
With Conrad's Heart of Darkness, the inspiration for Francis Ford Coppola's film Apocalypse Now.
